Univerx Workforce

Gamification

Leaderboards, badges and contests built on real KPIs, as a complement to development, not a substitute. In Univerx configurable for voluntary participation, team scores and co-determination.

Building blocks

Gamification in detail.

The building blocks at a glance – all in the same workspace and under the same administration.

  • Real KPIs

Game elements use the same values as the scorecard, not counters of their own.

  • Teams, not individuals

Contests can run at team level; individual leaderboards are optional.

  • Badges for development

Awards for completed learning modules or new skills, not only for speed.

  • Voluntary

Employees can opt out of leaderboards with no disadvantage in their daily work.

#Playing on real numbers

Gamification means bringing game elements into everyday work. A badge for the first dozen resolved specialist requests, a team goal for the week, a visible progress bar. Used well, it makes development tangible.

In Univerx, every game element is built on the same KPIs as the scorecards. There is no parallel world of points unrelated to the actual work.

#What works, and what does not

Tends to helpTends to harm
Team goals with a shared rewardPublic individual rankings by speed
Badges for new skillsPoints for the shortest possible calls
Voluntary contests with a clear time frameA permanent contest with no break
Progress in one’s own developmentComparisons without context of request and channel

The table is not a rule but experience from service operations. Which form fits your culture is best worked out with the teams themselves.

#Contests with a beginning and an end

A contest works as long as it stays manageable. In Univerx every contest has a period, a goal and a KPI. Then it ends, the results are shown and, if you wish, deleted. A new contest starts deliberately, not automatically.

Teams can also set their own goals, such as clearing the email backlog before the weekend. Shared progress is visible; individual contributions only if your configuration allows it.

#Configured for co-determination

Gamification makes performance visible, so in Germany it falls under co-determination (§ 87(1) no. 6 BetrVG). Univerx provides the settings an agreement needs.

Settings often agreed

Scoring at team level only
Voluntary participation in leaderboards
Visibility limited to one’s own team
No use in performance appraisals
Scores deleted when the contest ends

Our post Talking to the works council about analytics shows how to prepare that conversation. The term itself is explained in our glossary under Gamification.

Frequently asked questions

Is gamification compatible with a works council?

In Germany it requires co-determination because it makes performance visible. Univerx allows team scores, voluntary participation and limited visibility, so a works agreement becomes possible.

Can we switch gamification off entirely?

Yes. It is an option within the Workforce family and can be enabled or disabled per team.

Which KPIs are suitable?

Values that reflect quality and outcome, such as quality score or first contact resolution. We do not recommend pure speed values as the sole basis for a game.
